Normally right after the episode airs in the UK. I have to wait till 9PM on Space. SO EXCITED. Also I’ll be home alone so the lights will be turned off and the volume will be highest heck ya

Anyway, confirmed that this is Clara’s last season http://www.space.ca/jenna-coleman-is-leaving-doctor-who/

I’m glad.. I think Clara’s stay will have been the longest of any companion of new Who even longer than Amy

Just watched the premiere. Really awesome stuff. I mean really, smashing awesome. Having the Daleks and Davros (not to mention that Davros flashback) kick things off was just fantastic. Kind of went off its rocker when it reached the scene of Doctor playing a guitar solo on a tank in 12th century Essex and technically inventing the word “Dude” but overall I found it brilliant.

It wasn’t that great to me lol… The beginning with Unit felt like Transformers or something… Clara really shouldn’t have that much clearance. And she was really cocky and stuff….

I liked the guitar part though that was kind of cool

But like not a whole lot happened… Maybe part 2 will be better

Not a whole lot happened and it felt long because we’ll be getting part 2.

I enjoyed it, and I’m excited for more in the second half. The reveal at the beginning with Davros was amazing and I enjoyed seeing UNIT again. Missy was brilliant as always (seriously the funniest character on the show ever) and the dialogue was fun and witty.
I like the new Clara we have now – independent from the Doctor (unlike the one we saw in Series 8) and I’m excited for more of her in this last season.
Hopefully Missy stays on and appears more than just this arc on this season.

Anyway, Davros’ return was cool too. Loved seeing the Shadow Proclamation and Karn as well. And Skaros has been remade which means the Time War was for nothing… which is why we better see Gallifrey this season.

The importance of Clara was a bit much. Missy wanting to talk to her I can get but UNIT calling her in as soon as something went weird? Well … OK they couldn’t get hold of the Doctor so I guess I’ll let it pass but yeah she’s too full of herself. But then I loved how Missy put her in her place when she just *assumed* she was the Doctor’s best friend. Ha! 🙂

We watched it with our parents last night. The episode managed to capture everyone’s attention from start to finish, which is not always the case because everyone has their own tastes in Doctor Who episodes. (For example, last year, we all loved Robots of Sherwood, except Dad, who found it the worst episode of the entire series.) It felt sort of like the Series 6 opener, not just because it was part one of two, but because it set up a convoluted situation and killed one of the main characters.

Obviously, The Doctor was very upset and not thinking clearly by the end of the episode, but if he really thinks that him abandoning Davros on the battlefield is what caused him to grow up to be Davros-creator-of-the-Daleks, wouldn’t the much more Doctor-y solution be to save young Davros? If he wants to be certain, he could even relocate the boy to another planet to let him grow up with a normal life.
(In that last scene in the past, was The Doctor wearing a vortex manipulator? Because the Daleks apparently just destroyed the TARDIS…)

I found that funny too, Firebird. 😆 Missy and the Doctor are really funny together.

Wait. Do even know what the Doctor did after he knew the child was Davros? Did he save or abandon him?

Well, we see from Davros’s point of view that The Doctor stops talking to him, gets back in the TARDIS, and dematerializes.

The thing is if it were possible to kill Davros or in some other way stop him creating the Daleks someone would have done it already. It has to have occurred to the Time Lords at some point during the Time War 😉 So that leaves us with the ‘fixed point in time’ business meaning the Doctor can’t kill him. So much of his own timeline is tied up with the Daleks that he can’t unmake them.

Oops, I forgot that, Sibs. 😛

Firebird, Davros being a fixed point does make sense, but the Doctor DID get back to him at the end of the episode with a gun pointed at him. Perhaps he CAN be killed – but it would completely alter the universe’s timeline…

It’s as we pretty much have been saying. Part 2 was the WAY stronger half. There were so many moments of feeling, but so few were genuine it always left me guessing whether one character’s being honest or not and I love that. Cracking first story to this season in my book.

I really enjoyed it too. Series 9 is off to a strong start.
Missy and Clara’s scenes were always funny, but my favourite scene was when the Doctor and Davros start laughing together. They actually made me feel sorry for Davros…
Davros’ plan to get regeneration energy happened a little too quickly I think, but it still worked well.
Missy was hilarious as always. I loved when she met Davros… and then the ending means she’s probably going to work with the Daleks. Probably in the finale.
There were constant mentions of the Time Lords so hopefully we find them again in the finale, if the Daleks appear as well alongside Missy.
And the scene where the Doctor recreates the TARDIS was a nice set-up to the rest of Series 9. “Just the Doctor and Clara Oswald…”

Check out @BBCDoctorWho on Twitter for today’s Michelle Gomez Q&A.

@Robotmeile asked – Roger Delgado’s master loved the Clangers. What would Missy like to watch?

“I am a MASSIVE fan of The Clangers!!! If they killed off Missy I’d happily come back as a Clanger! Clangers rock!” MG

    😆

Ha! Just checked because I thought, she’s got to be near my age if she’s a Clangers fan and she is! She is in fact a few months younger than me.

I really enjoyed this episode. It reminded me of the Satan ones of Season 2. The next episode looks like it’ll be out of the base, which is kind of disappointing because I feel like they could do a scarier story of them just in the base. But still, really looking forward to the next part. Strong beginning.

OK I’m cool with that, the Doctor cheated, but he’d already used the hologram trick on the ghosts in pt 1 so it was entirely consistent.

The 4th wall bit at the beginning … mmmmm … no. I’m not freaking out about it but I would rather they NOT do that again. It played like they were originally going to have him present that monologue to Clara because at the very end it ties back and she acts like it was familiar.

I enjoyed the episode but probably not as much as the last. Kind of confusing at times, and I disliked how they gave the villain an actual body because it seemed so much scarier before that… but still, a really good arc. All the characters were great.

Yes, Firebird, I agree about the 4th wall. I didn’t like it as much, but it made me laugh.

That episode has made me very, very sad. 🙁
I enjoyed it. Series Nine has so far been very strong, I think. Ashildr was a fun and interesting character and I’m glad we’re going to see her again, but I think it would have been more fun if we revisited her a few episodes later (instead of the next one right away) just to reinforce the idea that she’s immortal.

So we got an explanation for Capaldi’s face. I don’t think it’s the same one Russell T Davies had planned to give, but it still makes sense – a reminder to save people (as if the Doctor needed one?). Any other explanation may have been too outrageous. I really liked seeing Donna and Ten again. 😥

I really really don’t see the point in explaining anything. It’s not the first time an actor has appeared in the show and later been cast as the Doctor, or come back as a companion for that matter, and previously there was no in-universe mention made.

I agree. But Moffat said RTD had an explanation for Capaldi in both Torchwood and DW… which sounds odd.

Yeah, but if The Doctor taking the face of someone he has already met is supposed to be a subconscious message to himself, what was the Sixth Doctor supposed to be reminded of by having the face of Commander Maxil? Moffat seems like a man who knows and loves his Classic Who, so it seems like he would have thought of the question…

It wasn’t thought through properly. In all of space and time there are only so many configurations a human looking face can take so there *will* be duplicates, certainly near duplicates to enough to ‘explain’ reusing actors. The Doctor is bound to run into that in his travels. No big deal. Having his past self picking his new face to send himself a questionable message is problematic in all sorts of ways and I really wish they hadn’t gone there.

The message is odd for sure. To save people? The Doctor already saves people… Ashildr isn’t the first life he’s saved. It made the message weaker.
