May be a little early to start this thread as the Christmas special hasn’t even gone out yet but we’ve already got the title for episode one so let’s discuss it. For those who don’t know it’s The Magician’s Apprentice and we have no confirmation as to whether or not Clara will be in it. She is allegedly staying for the first half of series nine but this has yet to be confirmed so as far as we know it’s only Capaldi signed on for series nine. As for the title of the episode, I’m not sure what to think. Since Peter Capaldi’s costume make’s him look like a magician it could mean we’re getting a new companion. I like this option and I would like it to be a full time male companion (maybe played by Colin Morgan… please?) not secondary to Clara like Rory was to Amy. I would also like Clara to stick around for half the series so we have a TARDIS crew of three and then have her leave and maybe introduce a new female companion after that to have for the second half or just stick with the male companion for a while, I don’t mind either way but that’s how I personally would like series nine to play out.

Yeah I’d like a male character too or even a male and female like the Ponds. Rory’s really been the only true male companion…

The only reason we don’t have a male companion is because the Doctor is male. They need at least both a male and a female on the TARDIS.

Personally I feel that the Doctor with one male and one female companion works best, but I prefer for the male companion not to be tied to the female one like Rory was to Amy as it means that it’s a primary and secondary companion rather than two equal companions. Rory was great but was far too often in the shadow of Amy which was unfortunate for him.

So then, series nine has officially started filming and episodes three and four are a two part story written by Toby Whithouse, and apparently it’s a scary story. Overall, I’m quite excited by this but I’m trying not to get too caught up in the hype as this has led to disappointment far too much in the past. What I like most about this is that we’re getting a two parter which means that we should have a nicely developed story as well as a cliffhanger.

Oh, Thoros of Myr on Doctor 😛 He’s a great actor on Game of Thrones.

Set image for series nine: http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/peter-capaldi-series-9-filming-whithouse-570×616.jpg It’s nothing extravagant but it’s still nice to have something. Also, episodes 3 and 4 are rumoured to be taking place in a Russian base (presumably that soldier in the picture is Russian) so they should be interesting.

So a two-part arc… we didn’t get any in series 8 until the finale.

Yeah, and the series 8 finale was the first two part story since 2011. I’m glad they’re back as two many new series stories suffer from being so short.

Not Being Human, Vince is literally a fox. No, Mongrels http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongrels_(TV_series) If you go watch any clips be aware that they are generally NSFW 🙂

Missy’s back for the series premire and the second episode is titled The Witch’s Familiar. So it’s a two part story written by Moffat to kick off the series followed by another two part story… interesting, how we’ve gone from having barely any two part stories to having loads. Over the past few days we’ve been getting quite a bit of news about series 9 including images of a new monster which looks quite interesting although I’m a little bit worried about it’s mobility although it has the potential to be quite menacing. We’ve also been given confirmation that the first six episodes will make up three-consecutive two parters which is a nice change of pace, esspecially since we’d been so long without one and now they’re coming back with a vengeance it seems.

I think it’s nice to get her out of the way first as there were a lot of mysteries left about her at the end of series eight and having them resolved immediately rather than having them hang over our heads for the whole series would be nice. It’s also a nice change of pace as the Master has only really been used to send a series out on in New Who so having the Master open one up instead is fine by me 🙂

I’m sure everyone’s heard the news about the return of Osgood, Kate and the Zygons in a two part story by Peter Harness but I thought it would be nice to discuss it anyway. I was excited at first when Kate was announced and then we had Osgood thrown in and I got a bit worried but my hope was sort of redeemed by the presence of the Zygons and then was brought back down again by Peter Harness as the writer since he did not impress me with Kill the Moon. So I think I’m neutral on this one. I fear its being made just to tie up that plot point in Day of the Doctor which should’ve been tided up there and then to be honest.

I’m thinking Osgood won’t be actual Osgood, but a Zygon. It would be odd to bring her back.

Got to be a Zygon really, but nice to have the actress back.

Yeah although going with that seems a bit too obvious to me. But as you say it is nice to have the actress back. I just hope this episode does it in a way which doesn’t take away any of the impact of the original characters death and adds to it if anything.

Maybe following the confusion during Death in Heaven the Zygons take their chance and replace key members of UNIT including Osgood and Kate and the others don’t realise and it’s only when the Doctor shows up that they find out. It’d also be nice to see her as the main villain which would also provide the actress with an interesting challenge I’m sure. Not sure how this would fit in with Kate’s presence in the first episode but that’s how I’d prefer it to go down if I’m honest.

I’m pretty sure his costume has more variations already than most other Doctors 😛 Interesting that they decided to stick with the hoodie from Last Christmas as I always saw that as more of a one off thing but I guess it’s staying for a while. I believe there’s a picture from an earlier story in series nine where he’s wearing checked trousers similar to Patrick Troughtons.

Rigsy’s back: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/entries/a2f29a2b-62bd-4916-a910-eb3077d211eb Interesting how out of all of the one-off character who people were wanting a return from they choose him. Not that I dislike him at all and he might not be to only one (we still don’t know who Gus is so maybe a sequel to Mummy featuring Frank Skinner) but I just find it interesting that they choose him. Unfortunately this means it’s probably going to be a modern day Earth one which is a bit disappointing given that it looks like we’re already got at least a couple set on present day Earth.
