This is for discussing parts of the movie. Not for opinons, that can remain on the other thread. I would just like to dedicate this threat to discussing scenes, locations, vehicles, tech, and of course, EASTER EGGS!

Things I saw that I didnt expect.

    *A “Turbo Tank”
    *A TIE transport
*The Imperial tank was actually on treads.
    * The Profundity (flagship) had its bridge below, interesting.
    * The use of the hammerhead ship was cool.
    *Vader’s castle on Mustafar.

The use of Red and Gold leader was good. Red 5 dying was a nice nod.

The way K2 hacked into the other droid, I didnt really expect but it was cool as well.

Vader tower reminded so much of Sauron’s from LOTR.

They mentioned a general Syndulla. Hera or Cham?

Yes loved the Red 5 nod.

The TIE fighter shooting at Jyn on top of the communication tower was new right?

Just read about a fun easter egg I didn’t notice. The guys who bump into Jyn on Jedha are the guys who get into trouble with Obi-Wan in the Mos Eisley cantina in ANH where one of them loses his arm 😀

And Chopper is in the background when that guy runs out to tell Mon Mothma about the attack.

Definitely Hera, given the clues. I would love the visual guide for the movie.

I just got back and I think it was amazing, as someone who saw the OT first and fell in love with those movies, I couldn’t be more pleased with this one for the most part.

I am glad they all died, I mean I had been calling it from the start but it’s refreshing to see the heroes die and not a) live or b) come back from the dead, I don’t think any of these characters are coming back and they don’t need too.

As for the characters themselves I enjoyed them, Baze and Chirrut where a nice duo, Cassian was probably my personal favorite and K2-SO was pure comic relief but in a very good way. Jyn Erso really surprised me, the trailers didn’t do her justice at all, they took here like worst lines and stuff in the trailers, or bad takes or something idk but she was pretty awesome in the movie. And she was a much better character then Rey IMO, Rey was some know it all, Mary-Sue character, Jyn felt real.

Vader wasnt seen too much, but that scene at the very end was pure badass, fan service but definitely one of my favorites. I would have liked the Emperor to make one appearance, either by hologram or Vader visiting him on Coruscant or something. Tarkin was done quite well, Krennic was cool but wasn’t too interesting IMO.

I really liked the variety in locations, so many planets in this one was nice to see, really shows how big the universe is. Scariff was super cool and I think it was kinda unique, we never really seen that tropical beach like planet before in any content.

Bunch of little stuff I liked, too the callout to Hera, Choppers little cameo on Yavin, the Ghost. Also Red Five dying was a cool one, opens up Luke’s spot. Liked the CGI pilots, seeing Wedge or Biggs would have been nice though.

Vader castle on Mustafar was cool, I guess he choose that place for his strong emotional feelings

Coruscant was in the movie too though, easy to miss but the planet in the flashback with Galen in his imperial grey uniform and Krennic is Coruscant.

Also there’s a rumored connection between Rouge One and Episode 8 next year, I think the most likely connection is Vaders castle on Mustafar. Kylo Ren would probably use that as his training ground or something.

Luke could be interested in it

Yes, Jyn’s toys as a child are a mix of Clone Wars and Empirial Era things too.

I liked Krennic. Kinda tragic. According to reddit its better having read Catalyst, so maybe I could pick it up over the summer. Maybe a Directors cut would flesh things out more.

I was surprised Jyn died because I read before the movie that Felicity Jones was signed with an option for another movie. But it’s cool. The heroes don’t always survive and live happily ever after.

Jyn >> Rey. Rey needs to improve over the next two movie’s to match her.

I thought Krennic was alright. Not just an evil moustache twirler.

Yeah that’s another thing Rogue One did much better the TFA. Locations. Scarif is already of the the cooler planets in Star Wars.

Pilots weren’t CGI. They were unused footage from ANH 🙂

I liked the story about how the Death had faced numerous delayed and the Emperor was getting frustrated.

Oh and the Alliance assault on Eadu was just amazing. Like DF said about TCW. Rain just makes everything cooler.

Rey kinda sucks as a character IMO, she just doesn’t feel like a real person to me anymore. She’s somehow good at everything and knows everything…

I really liked the planet Galen died on too, Jedha was interesting, I wonder if that’s the planet in the concepts for the open world Star Wars game.

Yeah this movie had really cool weather effects

Anakin was sort of like Rey but he had such a strong force connection it helped him pod race, plus he had practice at it. He worked in a repair shop, him building 3PO is reasonable.

Luke felt the most real too me of the main movies, his background as a farmer wanting more out of his life. He was the best pilot of his friends on Tatooine, he had lots of practice too.

Rey is like complete Mary-Sue, she never flew before her knows how to expertly fly and repair the Falcon just as good as Solo. Her force skills where way too strong and there’s no way she should have beat Kylo even with his extensive injuries.

Jyn was probably the most real like character, she wasn’t a force user but just had lots of experience.

Agreed so far she’s just a bit too perfect. The only slight vulnerability she showed was when she had the vision and didn’t want anything to do with it. I still hate how she just used the Jedi mind trick like it’s nothing. Even if the day before she didn’t know the Force was real..

Yeah the thing with Anakin as a kid was much better done. He had practised and I’m guessing lost podraces before and it the racing didn’t rely on specific Force abilities, just on him having better reflexes and better intuition than normal people which makes sense.
Plus it was actually revealed in TCW that he didn’t build 3PO from scratch. 3PO had another master before Anakin.

Yup. Even injured and not fully trained it’s pretty cheap to see him taken down by Rey. Or getting the lightsaber from him. First thing he ever did in the movie was stop a blaster shot in midair and then suddenly he can’t pull a lightsaber out of some snow?

Jyn was my favorite from the cast, probably followed by Chirrut.

What did you guys think of Tarkin’s CGI head? I mean you could see it was CGI but it’s not something that was a problem for me or anything. I was fine with it.

Yeah he salvaged 3PO but he was in pretty bad shape when he did. Rey is just way too perfect, whatever they go for episode 8, it’s something that really needs to be toned down.

My character list for the Rebels I think was:
    Cassian
    Jyn
    Chirrut
    Baze
    K2-SO

Jyn is really close to Cassian, but I liked Cassians way of doing things.

I mean I really liked K2 as well so that list is all very close.

As for Tarkin, honestly it really doesn’t bother me. It’s ridiculous that critics are getting on that so much IMO. It’s probably the prequels forcing CGI comments out in all honesty…

This movies CGI IMO was the best of all the Star Wars movies and you could tell there was a lot that wasn’t CGI

Tarkin is important to the Death Star… he had to be in this movie, and had to look like Peter Cushing. A guy in makeup wouldnt cut it. He needs to be recognizable for people watching these movies back-to-back.

One thing I wish Rebels had done (allowing Rogue One to do), is use a little more Republic tech.

Not a Venator, That’d probably confuse kids. But the retrofitted Consular-Class frigates wouldve been cool to see. We did see the Pelta-Class, but Id like more.

Do you think we could see X-Wings for the first time in the series with Saw’s group? They fly them…

Yeah consular class frigates would have been cool.

I don’t think DF can resist using X-wings sooner or later.

I liked the new U wing! Can always use some more *-wings!

I went for the second time. IMAX was cool. Not something I’d always do but once in a while with the right movie maybe.
One thing I just thought about was Tarkin. He had to chances to basically end the rebellion. One wasn’t on him other one was.
If they had just destroyed all of Jedha they wouldn’t have made it off world. But that made sense. A city’s destruction is one thing a whole moon is harder to explain to the Senate. And they didn’t know Jyn and the others were down there.

Other is on Scarif. If he had destroyed the Rebel fleet with the Death Star instead of leaving it to Vader they wouldn’t have gotten away. Wouldn’t it make more sense to destroy the vital link. The guys on Scarif are doomed if their fleet is gone. Not to mention less Imperial loses both in personal, hardware and all the data they had in the tower.
Seems like his personal feelings about Krennick got in the way.

Was just wondering, did Raddus escape? He says MTFBWY Rogue One and then orders the retreat. But wasn’t he on board the cruiser that Vader then boarded? If he was I’m guessing he probably gets arrested and then executed.

And can we just assume that we really only saw the very last part of Vader’s slaughter? He likely starts his destruction as soon as he docks with the cruiser and until he gets to the Tantive IV docking station where we get to see it 😛

I don’t see the need for the use of Republic tech, it was 20 years ago and most of the Republic stuff was reoutfitted for the Empire.

Remember that Y-Wings are actually Republic tech despite being more affiliated with the OT, and I’m pretty sure those U-Wings might be based off the Gunships.

The Rebels ships where a lot smaller then the ones in ROTJ though, not sure how effective the Death Star would be taking out that fleet, and without destroying their own in the process.

Should read Catalyst sometime… it’s a Rouge One novel like Chex said but it would be nice to know more of Krennic.

I still need to finish a Tarkin though, I wonder how heavily that relates, has to have some relation I’d imagine

The DS1 can’t aim at ships that small, I dont know if the DS2 could even do that. The 3 biggedt ships the rebels had in this battle were the two Nebulon B frigates and the MC75 (Raddus’s ship).

Couldn’t it shoot at the MC75?
