That seems like what’s being set up. Luke abandoned her for her safety after the Knights of Ren killed the Jedi. But where are her parents? Either she was taken in by the Order at a young age (as Force-sensitive children are) and her parents are out of the picture or her parentage is special.

I think Luke may be her father anyways still. Maybe he doesn’t know he’s the father though?? And the mother left him and abandoned the child… but either way the box seemed to be programmed for Rey, and inside was Luke’s lightsaber so yeah that’s enough convincing for me

I think they will have Leia die in this episode.

I wonder if they even considered having Leia die in episode 7… I doubt it since Harrison Ford actually wanted Han to die in ROTJ. Plus Harrison is the oldest of the trio by a fair margin.

I meant have Leia die in place of Han specifically

Nah, doubt it. This will complicate things for IX, I’m sure. Filming for VIII is done, so its set unless they make editing changes.

Yeah I’m pretty sure Han was set as the one for VII.

Since VIII is done I think it might require too many changes to kill her off. You’d have to do CGI Carrie and reaction scenes with other cast. My guess is they kill her early in IX.

Thats what Im thinking. It could be a key in Kylo’s development into a larger threat or into an ally depending on how they pitch it.

I think a very cool thing could be that if they can have her die off and the resistance/New Republic be so diminished, Perhaps Billie Lourd’s character can recieve a promotion. She is labeled as Lieutenant right now. Give her a General or Commander promotion and let her serve out any of Leia’s militaristic leadership roles in Episode IX. I think this could be a very nice thing, if she is up to it.

    http://www.starwars.com/news/the-official-title-for-star-wars-episode-viii-revealed

Well it’s confirmed… not a bad title. TLJ has a nice ring to it 😛

I really hope Luke is The Last Jedi though that it’s referring too, and I hope Luke doesn’t die in Episode 8. Tbh this kinda title seems like it would make more sense for the last movie in the trilogy idk

Certainly better than The Force Awakens.

I agree Newan. It feels more like the title for the last episode of the trilogy, but whatever, it’s a nice title.

But maybe he is the Last Jedi. Maybe Rey can be something… more. There is a lot of non-jedi and non-sith Force stuff coming out. I dont think he will die.

Some think Kylo will be the Last Jedi. I don’t want another redemption though. I hope he stays evil and Rey ultimately will have to kill him.
Same Chex, I don’t think Luke will die.

I really don’t want Luke to die in Episode 8… already lost Han and Carrie died 🙁

Don’t want all of the original trilogy members gone by the time episode 9 comes around.

I wouldn’t mind Kylo as the last Jedi, Jedi beats Sith like guy has been done in all 6 movies

There is no indication Luke will die.

Even if he did he’d come back as a ghost.

It probably refers to both Luke and Rey since I’m guessing they will be the focus of this movie. Jedi can be plural after all.

Yeah it was pretty well done. Many teasers these days tell you way too much.
I’m guessing the intro is Rey coming out from her cave experience.

The ending with the “Jedi must end” could be interesting. Or it could just be out of context to make us assume a bunch of things. It’s hard to say what’s gonna happen but as long as we stay away from superweapons and don’t follow ESB beat by beat this could be pretty cool.

I’m most interested in Kylo, I’m really curious on what’s next for him. There’s multiple directions they can go with his character, everyone else is more a one way street IMO.

Except Finn… I don’t see his purpose anymore. He was cool for TFA but I just don’t see him as a full trilogy guy

I feel like we will have two separate storylines going here. There is Pie-Finn-Rose vs Phasma-Hux and Luke-Rey vs Kylo-Snoke. Not necessarily in a physical sense. What I mean by this is just the New Republic vs First Order military, while there is a quest for discovery and training among the Force users of both sides. Whether they clash in this movie, I have no clue.

I would expect some clash but no the final one until next movie. Wouldn’t surprise me if Kylo wind this time.
    Rose? Who’s that?
Pie is a great character 😛

Has potential to be true, I defiantly think Thrawn influenced the First Order. After Tarkin he was the Emperors chosen and Palpatine had always respected him so it would make sense he was apart of this contingency with his knowledge.

So my preferred outcome for episode 8 and 9 is…

    – Kylo trains with Snoke and Rey trains with Luke

    – Snoke realizes that Rey has much more potential and tempts her to the darkside (the book already did this with having Snoke talk to Rey tempting her to kill Kylo) being the ignorant little girl she is and not understanding the force she joins him, Kylo gets swept aside but eventually comes back to Luke

    – Luke now feeling terrible that once again his student has failed him (Rey), he is reluctant to take on Kylo but sees him as his final chance for redemption and vice versa in Kylo’s eyes seeing Luke as a chance to make up for the wrong he’s done.

    – Luke is not ready to give up on Rey because of his emotional attachment to her due to Rey being his daughter (I think she is) and works on a plan to get her away from Snoke, however at this point Luke has not told anyone Rey is his daughter.

    – Some filler stuff happen but eventually there’s a final showdown with Luke and Kylo vs Rey and Snoke, Rey seems devoted to Snoke but during the battle she remains conflicted and sees through Snokes manipulation (I don’t know what his grand plan really is tbh…). Luke reveals to Rey that he is her father, Kylo is present for this revelation and they realize they are all family. Perhaps at this point Rey, Luke and Kylo are the only family they all have left since I expect Leia will be written out most likely dead due to Carries passing.

    – Together Luke, Rey and Kylo oppose Snoke in an epic battle and stop him and his mystery plan whatever that maybe. However in the process I expect one of our heroes to die, I’m thinking it would likely be Kylo but I could see it being Luke, probably not Rey.

    – The two survivors return victorious and procced to build a new Jedi order.

    —-

It’s a bit cliche with Rey being like Anakin however I think it’s a great twist, everyone sees Rey as the Luke’s and Kylo as the Vader here, but Vader really turned good in the end which could be a similar fate for Kylo, perhaps his love for Vader might foreshadow that he will follow in his steps.

Carries death really puts a damper in the sequels though… there’s not much room for Kylo to return and reconnect with his mother now, and they said they wouldn’t CGI Leia.

And obviously I left out most of the Resistance and first order stuff, but nobody cares too much for that IMO… and the resistance lost its backbone figure with Carrie as well…
