Just started this in case everyone doesn’t get their copy tomorrow or can’t read it right away.

SPOILERS FOR FIRST FIFTY PAGES ISH

I love how Mace is the odd one out. How he’s one of the ‘bad’ Jedi in his methods. He represents how the Jedi have fallen. Same with Anakin. But Obi-Wan and Yoda are different.
And I love how Ventress now has a reputation among the bounty hunters. 😛

Ahh I think you might be at the same part as me at least when you posted that. I just finished chapter 4.

I made a thread on the AG where I’m going to list all my thoughts and keep them ordered but I’ll share them here as well, lots of interesting little things in this novel.

    1. I didn’t expect Boba and his team to make a cameo (maybe it’s more but doesn’t look like it). Also this is after the bounty arc for sure since Embo seems to be running with them now. Embo, Boba, Bossk, Latts, Highsinger Where all together. Also they’re on level 1313.

    2. Pantora finally makes an appearance, thought we would probably see it eventually.

    3. The dialogue is all really good and just like TCW, I enjoy Obi-Wan/ Vos conversations. Also Anakin and Vos teaming up would be awesome 😛

    4. I like how everything flows and you can sort of tell what was added in for the novel and what wouldn’t have been seen in the show. Like the kid at the start wouldn’t have been there I don’t think but the scene would. All the stuff with Quinlans mission at the start it probably would have just been him at the temple.

The book doesn’t come out until Thursday here but I read the extended preview that was posted in the other thread a while back, so I’ll just write my thoughts on what I can remember from that.

    1) The start with the little girl was a bit overdramatic. Would a mother really let her child go wandering off in their last moments?

    2) The Aleena Jedi at the start could’ve been replaced by Eeth Koth. The show clearly had no plans for him so it was a perfect opportunity to get rid of him.

    3) Pointless Anakin. Ugh. His dialogue could’ve gone to anybody else.

    4) I was on Mace’s side for the whole debate. I just wish more people had spoke up.

    5) Yoda’s little speech with the candle metaphor from the Amazon preview has been changed so he walks over to the window which is good. The candle wasn’t there before and it isn’t there after.

    6) The Jedi seem to know all the details surrounding Season 3’s Nightsisters arc here just like Ahsoka did in Season 5. Yet the only person who could’ve had the opportunity to learn them would be Obi-Wan when he and Ventress were alone after Revenge but even then I doubt she’d say anything. Even if she did, why would Ahsoka need to know? She’s not important.

    7) Ventress’ pursuit of her bounty was initially fun but by the third try it got a bit tedious.

    8) I can hear Nika Futterman’s voice in my head when reading her lines which is never a bad thing. 😛

    9) The constant references to Vos as the idiot was terrible. Once was enough.

    10) Don’t remember anything after Ventress and Vos drinking together other than them going to the guy’s apartment — at which point the preview ended.

So far a good start. It feels like a TCW story and a massive improvement from Christie Golden with the writing minus a couple of parts. This just shows that Fate of the Jedi was just a terrible idea with terrible characters.

    Thursday can’t come soon enough!

Oh I just finished chapter 8, when they where drinking together.

I sort of feel the Jedi give her too much credit. Yeah I agree it’s cool she has a reputation with the bounty hunters now, she should be top class there but the Jedi? Toe to Tow with Anakin, Kenobi and Yoda? She got embarrassed by Yoda and 90% of the time the other two where beating her and she ran away, she wasn’t a fair match for them at all, maybe now she’s improved I guess since they hanvt fought since season 3

You know if the Jedi struck the separatist leaders like Grievous, Ventress, Dooku in groups rather then pairs the war would have been over long ago… Like if Mace, Kenobi, Anakin, Plo Koon, Kit Fisto and Yoda all went together and hit every one up in order seriously they wouldn’t be able to stop that…

I like the story but the idea of Quinlan and Ventress being able to kill Dooku is just no it’s not going to happen and you know they’re not strong enough

I agree with Roger, the part of the Aleena Jedi could just as easily have been given to Eeth Koth. Looking back on it, why didn’t they just use Agen Kolar for the ‘Grievous Intrigue’ episode? Eeth was already dead, and they could have used Agen up until the shows end without worrying about having to kill him off. Oh well.

I had a lot of fun reading the book, but I do think it became a little too romantic (I have nothing against romance in fiction. In fact I was excited for the romance with Ventress and Vos)… everything we’ve seen of Ventress shows her as the not-romantic type. But by the end of the novel, she was all about romance.
Still enjoyed it, though. Very emotional.

I’m starting to feel like they did to Ventress what they did to Ahsoka during A Friend In Need…. IDK… on one side, they did make Ventress stay focused on a man, which goes against her past self.. But then again, she didn’t rely on him or anything. If anything, Quinlan was the one relying on Ventress. She tried to save him numerous times and in the end, saved his life by giving her own. So IDK. Some people are saying they assassinated her character and others love it.

At least she died a hero. Not even just the rogue she was before, but a hero.

A little to much romance for me but I enjoyed it.
I liked that she died at peace.
On a grander scale you could make the point that she almost saved the galaxy in getting Kenobi to realize that the Jedi were losing themselves only the realization came to late.
Hope that makes sense haven’t had much sleep this week.

That’s true. It was nice how they showed how far the Jedi had fallen… so I’m assuming this is fairly close to ROTS, and the Jedi would not do another assassination attempt on Dooku until he dies above Coruscant.

I just reread the ending. Hm. I guess a lot of people think they ruined her character when she decided to save Quinlan AND Dooku from the Republic ship and just listening to Quinlan as they went to a Confederate base. That was out-of-character for her, to just follow him like that, I think. It would’ve been stronger if she refused to escape the moment she saw Dooku come along.

Any interesting little tis bits that we should know? Cool trivia?

Quinlan and her are together with Dooku somewhere behind Quinlan. Then Asajj has a Force vision (favourite scene) and she hurls Quinlan out of the way, absorbing Dooku’s lightning. Dooku had meant to hit Quinlan, but she saved his life.

What happened after that? Did the Jedi bury her?

Dooku escapes, and they go back to the Temple. Then after a few months (Ventress is put in stasis) Quinlan and Kenobi go to Dathomir. Quinlan looks at her body (she’s wearing the dress she wore to the gala) and then lifts her and puts her in the water in the Nightsister caves. The green mists rise again as her body descends into the water, and the two Jedi hear the whispers of Asajj’s dead sisters, saying “sister”. It ends beautifully, saying “Asajj Ventress, at last, had come home.”

Hmm, that sounds kind of vague. You’re sure she’s dead? I wonder what Ahsoka would have said about all this…

What kinds of reactions did the other characters have? Mace? Anakin?

Yeah, she’s dead for sure. 🙁 And come to think of it, was Ahsoka even mentioned in the novel?

Mace at first hated that Ventress visited the Temple but when he found out that she died sacrificing her life for Quinlan, he commended her. IDK about Anakin.

I wish it was finished. How are you holding up, Nam?

Is this the last of TCW related projects for now? Anyone else remember Dave saying he was working on an Ahsoka origin story when TCW was still running? Wonder if he finished it. He mentioned it during the Zygerrian Arc commentary about some cyote people.

Ahsoka origin story? So much more better things they could do that’s about as needless as the Han origin story.

I sort of want to stay up to date with most of the new canon so after this novel I’ll probably finish Tarkin then “Lords of the Sith” and maybe “Heir to the Jedi” before “Aftermath” in September, which I really want to read since it’s right after the Endor events

How do you think I’m holding up, Banshee? 😥 😥 😥
(But I think I’d be a lot worse if these were actual episodes.)

I’ll get Tarkin and Lords of the Sith when they’re paperback.

It’s a side story, Newan. And, in reality, pretty much everything in any fictional universe is “un-needed” since it’s not real.

I heard good things about ‘Tarkin’. Not so much ‘Heir to the Jedi’.

Episodes probably would have had more emotional impact. But then we get less of the internal viewpoints. If still prefer episodes.

I’d rather have an Ahsoka origin story than one about Han… I actually like Ahsoka…

Anyway, back to the book. One of my favourite scenes was when Kenobi is waiting for Quinlan in the cantina but Ventress instead shows up, and the two just sit there together.

No I mean in the point that they have better clone wars plot lines to work on and wrap up then an Ahsoka backstory which would revolve around little kids and those are also not usually received well.

At least Han is like 30 in the movies so he has an Adult life with some story, Ahsoka is like 14 at the start of the show she has nothing really of interest.

Tarkin is really good but I’m only half through it I put it on hold for this novel, it’s similar to Plageuis not a surprise same author
