Oh, Kobo has it for free. I could read it on my phone.

So there’s both book one and two.

And it’s a rather short book, isn’t it.

I could start tonight but maybe you should post to the Members area to see if anyone else is interested and give it another day. Being available to download for free ought to count in its favour 😀

Well, then you should be finished by now Nam 😛 I don’t know if I could read it in 90 minutes though. I’m not a really slow reader, but I’m not exactly a speed reader either 😉

I wouldn’t mind reading War of the Worlds, but I’m on another book and with school starting next week I just don’t think I’d keep up with you guys.

“You read 314 words per minute.
That makes you 26% faster than the national average.”

Woah, that’s rather fast….. well I took the quiz a first time, and totally bombed the quiz, so I calmed down the second time and got 3/3 right, and that’s my result for the second one. Interesting. That kind of motivates me. 😆

It’s 27 chapters over two books. Two chapters a day?

I bombed the reading the first time so I did it again and got 318, but I guess I sort of cheated then since I’d already read part of it once.

Sister: 420 words per minute. So apparently it will only take me 2 hours and 24 minutes to read “War of the Worlds” if I read at that pace the whole time. It would be better if it were a longer reading sample, ’cause it takes a little while to settle in and read as I normally would. (Took it again and got 438 words per minute, but the excerpt was from The Wizard of Oz, and that’s an easy read, and a book I’ve read several times already, so I think that rather skews the test.)

@Zuma You got the same excerpt twice in a row?

Yeah I had the same twice. I thought they only had the one excerpt. Then I’ll give it another try 🙂

My fastest book ever was 600+ in a week..

Mine was probably The Hunger Games Trilogy, which I finished in one week. I finished the Deathly Hallows in two days..

😛 But see, with me, it depends. It can take me FOREVER to finish a book when I don’t feel like reading but when I do feel like reading I binge-read.

Sister: I read almost everything in one sitting, unless it’s quite lengthy, I think the LotR books took me two days each to read. Namialus and Zuma will probably get faster at reading as they get older. And of course, I read much slower if I’m attempting something like Shakespeare or Dickens. These book club books are a good exercise for me at stretching a book out to last multiple days. 🙂 I must have spent two or three months reading Ivanhoe, the first few boring chapters, set it down for a few weeks, picked it back up and found it was all still boring description, set it down for a few more weeks, came back and realized I’d forgotten what I’d already read so re-read first chapters, set it down for a few weeks, picked it back up and finally got the the STORY part of the book and gobbled it down because it was so interesting and exciting. 😀

I wish I could do that. 😛 With modern novels, I could finish them rather easily. Tolkien’s a whole other story.

Im 22 so I’m not sure if I’ll get faster 😛 I think it depends on what I’m reading too. A book like Harry Potter I go through pretty easily but a book like Game of Thrones I like to sometimes stop to think because there’s so many different characters with different storylines.
I usually do most of my reading in the morning and evening when I’m in bed and not so often in the middle of the day.

I actually have HGTTG lying around here somewhere, just never got around to reading it.

Anyone heard of the book Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It’s a sci-fi book written in a kinda found footage format. It’s all through hacked emails, chats, ship reports etc.
Just reached page 100 and I’ve loved it almost since page 1. Haven’t been grabbed this quickly in a while.

Also got The Blade Itself + sequels by Joe Abercrombie and a new graphic novel series while I was there but haven’t checked those out yet.

The Blade Itself is part of The First Law, right? I’m interested in reading those.

Finished Illuminae a couple weeks ago. Great read with some cool twists. Now I can’t wait for book 2 in the series.
Definitely recommend it if anyone wants to try try something that’s probably unlike anything they’ve read before 🙂

Based on the books I know it’s a good list. I’ve read a couple of them and enjoyed them and own a couple of the others, but haven’t gotten round to them yet.
