Also looking for a quick review as I have Netflix 🙂

  • It’s occurred to me, thinking about it the last couple of days, that Stephen Moffat didn’t really understand just how much the continued success of the show owed to Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and Alex Kingston.

There were weakness in the over arching plots and some of the scripts were irrational and silly, but the four main…[Read more]

  • They’ll pull in the delighted SJWs for a couple of episodes and then the inevitable ratings decline will set in. What they NEEDED was some decent scripts, some good stories, which we haven’t seen in far too long, stunt casting. Does the BBC actually want to kill the show?

So, how was the 2 Masters/old cyberman one? Not bothering has become a habit, I don’t even thing about watching it this week.

and today we went to the allotment to do some watering.

Here we are on Saturday and I haven’t watched last week’s episode yet, which is probably unfair as I usually enjoy Mark Gatiss episodes, but I forgot it was on and since then I’ve somehow always had something better to do.

Last week, not even interesting enough to complain about, this week I am *seriously* considering not bothering to watch live. Curiosity will probably get the better of me because of Missy but otherwise … How did it get so lame?

So I guess they’ll excuse absolutely everything by saying it was an imperfect simulation. Like the TARDIS failing to translate anything the Pope said and the Dr failing to notice. It’s hard to be scared of aliens who can’t even simulate random numbers properly.

  • Firebird started the topic Oxygen in the forum Dr Who 2 years, 1 month ago

{sigh} Lets ignore for the moment that the plot premise makes no sense at all (Oxygen is easy to reclaim from Carbon Dioxide and what was the point of having human miners in the first place if the AI suits could do the job anyway?). IDK I just didn’t care. Even at the end with the big ‘shock’ of the Dr still being blind, I had zero emotional…[Read more]

Better than last week, but it would hard to be worse. It was, meh. Largely predictable, not scary and the ending didn’t make sense. If there had been anything else on TV or I’d got a new book or something else to do I’d have left it to iPlayer and that’s pretty much how it’s going to be now. If I’ve got literally nothing better to do and I…[Read more]

It was bad. I tried to explain the plot to Youngling and the more I tried to answer her questions the worse it got. How big was the monster? MASSIVE, only, oh dear, the Thames just isn’t deep enough to hide something even half that big, up around the bridges you’re looking a less than 2m deep at the lowest water. Has the visibility ever been that…[Read more]

Maybe the title is prophetic. I know modern Who writers have often strayed into preachiness and reimagining the past how they think it ought to have been rather than how it was, but last night was SO explicit, SO in your face. The Doctor seems to have turned into an early 21st century western SJW. As if the “white-washing” exchange wasn’t bad…[Read more]

The bar isn’t set too high to be more likeable than Clara, by the end I was heartily sick of her! Same as you, I don’t get excited any more, I just go “oh, that bit looks like it might be OK” and then wait to see what happens.

  • Need to watch it a few more times, but the humanoid looking figure saying “Exterminate” looks nice and creepy!

  • Firebird replied to the topic Sherlock in the forum TV 2 years, 5 months ago

What’s amazing me today is the fury of the John/Sherlock shippers who seriously thought that the show would give them what they wanted. They rather insultingly assumed that Mark Gatiss would put aside his loyalty to the Conan Doyle canon to provide fan service because he’s gay himself? WTF? No people, John Watson is not gay and Sherlock, I don’t…[Read more]

Oh dear. The ending was a definite letdown. They really should have stopped after The Abominable Bride. Well, maybe that’s unfair, most of the previous two episodes were good, just cut out the bits leading on to this one and it would have been OK. The Final Problem was, with the best will in the world, a mess.

  • Nice to see the political element of the saga being discussed on a serious web site https://capx.co/what-star-wars-can-teach-us-about-hayek-and-vice-versa/

    Squeeeeeeee!!! It’s Sherlock Day!

  • Watched it live and haven’t rewatched yet so first thoughts.

Definitely some funny moments which you always want from the Christmas special.

Nardole was OK, but I’m a bit worried about him sticking around for the next season, a little bit of that character goes a long way and I’m afraid I’m going to find him tiresome very quickly.

    The new…[Read more]
